The Rottweiler Workshop is a comprehensive 3-day workshop
that will help us understand the subject that’s known as...the
ROTTWEILER. Using hundreds of visual aids demonstrating the Rottweiler
in movement, standing and breed type, world renowned speaker and
Rottweiler judge, Gerard O' Shea breaks down many of the common
misconceptions of the breed. Through his extreme passion and good
humour he drives his pupils to want to know more. During detailed
discussions in order that we fully understand the breed standard, he
brilliantly takes parallels from everyday life and applies them to what we are
seeing and hearing.
Gifted with a dynamic personality, Gerard has a wonderful way of explaining
and making it clear how type, movement, mentality and working ability
can become one and the same. Renowned internationally for his detailed and
open critiques, he teaches pupils not only how to analyse, breakdown and critique a dog, but also to be able to grade (rate)
the dog and then justify why.

This intensive three-day event will include hundreds of visual aids and
cover a variety of topics including:
- breed theory- conformation, structure, movement, etc
- in-depth analysis of the breed standard and how it applies to the
modern Rottweiler
- variation of type
- How breed type differs around the world
- how culture affects breed type
- type vs breed characteristics and type vs form
- critique analysis
- understanding ratings and applying them to your critiques
- understanding judging and placements
The final day all pupils are encouraged to bring 1 or 2 dogs purely as
examples and subjects which the pupils can practice what they have
learned in small 'You Be The Judge' groups. Each group is encouraged
not only critique and grade (rate) the dog(s) presented to them but
then to discuss why and to be able to justify it. Gerard spends a great
deal of time teaching these skills as he constantly rotates through the
different groups as they work.
Gerard’s belief that solidarity and communication is the bedrock of any
strong club or breed has prompted him to structure the class in such a
way that people must communicate and cooperate with each other
thus creating a social and relaxed environment that helps us focus on
the breed instead of each other.
As the seminar comes to an end, Gerard invites pupils to critique an unseen dog, give it a grade and then explain why, resulting
in a huge fulfilment for both teacher and pupils.
For the first time in the US...the Rottweiler seminar they are talking about all over the world!
